Programming/Feasibility Study, Lighting Upgrades, and Energy Audit NOAA Suitland

This project encompassed three main phases:

Phase I: Lighting Services, Feasibility Study, and Energy Audit

• Conducted an energy efficiency lighting audit for the garage and exterior lighting, analyzing energy consumption patterns and identifying areas for improvement.
• Qualified selected materials for PEPCO’s rebate program, ensuring cost-effectiveness of the lighting upgrades.
• Replaced 274 existing fixtures with new, energy-efficient LED lighting, as recommended by the energy audit findings.
• Ensured compliance with lighting and electrical codes during the retrofit process.

Phase II: Programming Study for WCDAS Operations Building

• Replaced or repaired air handling units (AHUs) on the lower level, addressing energy inefficiencies identified during the audit.
• Replaced all fluorescent lighting with LEDs, optimizing energy consumption and enhancing sustainability.
• Optimized floorplan for new employees and IT staff, considering energy-efficient layouts and configurations.
• Identified floor renovations for life safety and ADA compliance, integrating energy-efficient solutions where applicable.
• Evaluated and upgraded the Lightning Protection System (LPS) to meet safety standards and reduce energy losses.

Benefits

This project resulted in substantial energy savings projected at $350,000 over the first 10 years, achieving a payback period of 5 years, including a PEPCO rebate exceeding $15,000. Additionally, it contributed to reduced building emissions and enhanced sustainability. RIFE International’s expertise in energy audits, lighting services, and programming studies ensured significant benefits for NOAA, showcasing their proficiency in executing energy-efficient projects.
