RIFE International proudly highlights the Achimota Retail Centre in Accra, Ghana, as a leading example of sustainable design and energy efficiency. This project reflects our mission to promote clean energy and green building practices that benefit both the environment and local communities across Africa.
Ghana’s EPA Explores a Green Building Landmark
Last month, RIFE International Africa hosted consultants from Ghana’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the Achimota Retail Centre. Led by Karsten Mølgaard Holm from Danish Energy Management and Kobina Ebo Apeatse, an EDGE Expert, the group explored the Centre’s energy efficiency upgrades that support its qualification for EDGE certification.
The EPA selected this visit as part of its effort to develop official Green Building Standards for Ghana. The Achimota Retail Centre now serves as a reference project to guide national guidelines for residential, commercial, retail, and industrial buildings.
The Achimota Retail Centre proves how commercial spaces can integrate sustainable design effectively. By using natural lighting and ventilation, the building reduces reliance on mechanical systems, cuts operational costs, and improves comfort for shoppers and tenants.
This project goes beyond certification. It sets a new standard for how energy-efficient practices can scale across various building types in Ghana and West Africa. The Centre’s selection as a model project underscores its role in shaping sustainable infrastructure for the future.
RIFE International continues to lead sustainability efforts across Africa. This project helps position Ghana as a frontrunner in green construction and energy-efficient development. By championing clean energy and smart building strategies, we aim to raise living standards while minimizing environmental impact.
We believe sustainable buildings are essential for resilient communities. The Achimota Retail Centre brings this vision to life through innovative design and measurable environmental results.
We extend our sincere thanks to the dedicated professionals who brought this project to life. We especially recognize Giddalt Kunakey, Benedicta C. Akidam, Evert Viljeon, and Benjamin Appiah Darko of Broll Property Group at Achimota Retail Centre. Their commitment and expertise made this achievement possible.
